Safer Gambling and Safer Gambling Week
Gambling is a form of entertainment that you pay for. When we talk about safer gambling we're talking about being able to gamble without putting yourself or others at risk. This boils down to understanding what the risks are, with any form of gambling, and being able to make an informed choice about whether you participate or not.
Helping players manage their engagement with gambling is something that the gambling sector is firmly committed to and works hard on every day of the year.
There are mandatory requirements for ensuring that players are suitably informed, provided with tools to help them manage their engagement and provided with further information and help should they need this All sectors go above and beyond these minimum requirements, each taking a slightly different approach, influenced by their mode of operation and customer needs.
Over arching details of the approaches taken by each sector can be found in the SECTORS section of this area.
Safer Gambling Week
Safer Gambling Week 2020 runs from 19th - 25th November and is a campaign led by the gambling industry and supported by a wide range of non-gambling organisations, that aims to create a conversation with customers, staff and the wider public about gambling safely, driving awareness of:
- how to gamble more safely;
- the tools that are available to help people gamble more safely all year round;
- sources of more advice and support
The whole of the UK and Irish gambling industry - amusement arcades, bingo clubs, bookmakers, casinos and online - has come together to support Safer Gambling Week along with leading pub operators, publishers, youth groups and interested third parties.
Safer Gambling Week UK is a not-for-profit organisation. Its mission is to provide a structure to further promote safer gambling in Great Britain and has developed and co-ordinated Safer Gambling Week as a vehicle for building on and highlighting work done in the area.
